This antique Rawlings baseball mitt originated in 1939, the three finger style of glove was popular throughout the 1940s. The three finger glove, commonly referred to as the "Walter Lutz" glove was designed specifically with a large small finger slot. This design is beneficial as the third and small fingers are not strong enough to clutch the ball on their own.
